What is Wait One More Picture? Who’s behind it?
Hi there!
My name is Michael. At the time of me writing this, I am a 20-year old college student in New York; however, I am originally from southern New Jersey.
Currently, I am enrolled in Africa Media’s Wildlife and Travel Photography course. This course is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to learn more about one of my passions, as well as how to make it into a business. This blog is a product of that course.
Wait One More Picture is not a “I made this because I was told to” kind of a blog. I have had an interest in creating an online platform to showcase my photography and tell the stories behind them. This course just gave me the tools and understandings about how to create what I wanted!
Back in the day (well… 2015…), I created a Tumblr under the same name to showcase my photography. There were some nice ones in there, but most of the images were not of a high quality. Many were taken with an iPhone and edited with some free editing app that I had. By 2017, I was in my senior year of high school and taking my first photography course. I quickly learned to to actually edit images using Adobe Photoshop and I slowly stopped posting on Tumblr due to a lack of motivation. In December of 2018, I created Instagram and Facebook pages (@waitonemorepicture, go give it a follow!) to post my photography as to not clog up my personal Instagram. It was only more recently I began taking it more seriously.
So how will this be different from the dead Tumblr blog or the Instagram/Facebook pages?
The Tumblr, Instagram, and Facebook pages are all created to highlight an image, and are usually paired with some silly statement or quote related to the post. It is very flat and one-way in terms of engagement. Not only is that something I should really look into changing, but it gives this space that ability to have more depth.
Paired with images from different photo shoots or photographic adventures will be some context to some of my favorite images from that day. This could include anecdotes related to the images, things I have learned in the field or while editing, or possibly some facts about the subject I am shooting.
Blogging is a strange new world to me, but I am very excited to explore it!
